Hello Gentlemen, maybe you folks can help me understand just a little bit more about the K&N air filter replacement thingamajig.I just bought a 2001 QC w/4.7L and 21000mi. I read some post on the K&N cold air filter replacement/induction. It seems like it does give a little bit mor HP, a few more mpg, is this correct ? How difficult of change over is this ? How expensive ? Are their any other advantages to going with this ? Are thier any disadvantages...will it void warranty ?
Any info would be appraciated.
Also does anybody know what can be done with the darn stink comming from the ventilation system after you use the ac, I can't take it much longer.

I have a 2000 with the 4.7. I tried to purchase one of the new type ram air filter systems, but found they were not smog legal in california. I ended up replacing the stock filter element with a K&N filter element. Surprisingly I did notice a slight increase in performance and picked up an additional mile per gallon.
Did you ever get a response on your question about the smell from your ac unit? I have the same problem.

If you are just looking for a cheap mod, compared to real power boosters, and a modicum of labor, go with a drop in panel from K&N. Wait til you have to change the stock paper element, which could be now, and you can subtract about $5 from the K&N, around $40, so that it only costs you $35 extra. The stock airbox will keep the outside air effect and give you a much better flow rate, about 50%. Not 50% more air in the engine, just 50% more flow than a paper filter. A lot of times they compare a clean filter to a dirty one, so be careful which claims you read. This is the best mod for the budget minded who wants a few more ponies. 5 is a rough estimate, but any change in mileage will be negated due to your newfound air improvement. BTW, 21k is a lot for a 2001, I hope you got a hell of a deal and those were all highway miles.

Hey Anthony I have actually just read a TSB (technical service bulletin) on that problem tomarrow at work if I have time I'll check it out for you. But I know for a fact that it is a problem so it's not just yours.
