Subject: Question for Locksmith
IP: Logged

Message:
All: My key is suddenly having difficulties opening the lock on both doors of my 02 CC. Was wondering if a key can go bad or whether the lock cylinder can loosen over time where the key will no longer fit and turn. It seems to work in the driver side if I continue to twist the key left and right until it catches. Doesnt even turn in the passenger door. Key works fine in the ignition. Thx for your comments in advance.

Both the key and cylinder can wear, but a stiff cylinder can often be fixed with a shot of graphite to lube it back up. Don't use anything like wd40 instead - that mght work at first, but will eventually gum up with dirt and dust.

Kowalski you were dead on. I dug my extra key out of the draw and found it worked fine. Then compared it against the key on my chain and found that several high points were worn enough to cause me problems. Never had this happen in my 30 years of driving.

TT: I have an 02CC SXT which does not come thru with power door locks or windows.

Thx all for your responses.
