Message: If you have the plates from the previous owner, see if the police dept. well run it down. contact that owner to get a duplicate title. or. take the ven number to the police and do same thing. also may be able to run it down through the register of motor vehicles, Getting co operation is the hard part

Message: This will vary; depending on the state and the age of the truck. Probably best to seek advice from your state registry or police.

its guys like you that drive the rest of our insurance premiums up
#1 Follow Kowalski's advice
"seek advice from your state registry or police"
#2 you might need to get in touch with who ever you bought it from depending on your state laws
which brings us back to #1
wish you all the best

You need to lighten up. PPL wound as tight as you die at a young age.
DDDDDD,
Don't go to the police go to your state DMV. Legally, you don't own the truck unless your name is on the title. It could be stolen in which case, since you have it the police will slap a set of cuffs on you which is why you don't ask them.
What on earth were you thinking when you to took possession of a truck but didn't get the title? Most police automatically think you stole a vehicle if you show up and say you have it but not the title. They'll investigate you and not even bother with the truck. In this case you better hope your sh1t in order.

Message: it said he lost the title.
check with your DMV, explain the situation see what they say. Be sure you have the VIN on hand when you call. Be sure to tell them what state it was registered in, they may be able to pull up information and make it easier to get a title. You may just need to apply for a lost title. They may need some sort of bill of sale or something notorized signed by the previous owner. They can explain the steps you need to go through to get the vehicle.
might be a lost title, might be abandoned vehicle title, might be salvaged vehicle title.
Odds are you paid cash for the truck. If you paid by check, you can get a copy from your bank. I'm not sure how money orders work if you paid by money order, you may be able to get a copy.
good luck!

Message: Since you never transferred the title into your name, you don't own it. You never did.
You can't register it, get plates for it, or insure it. You can't sell it or give it away. It doesn't belong to you.
It's not stolen, because the current owner has not reported it that way.
It's just a truck that belongs to somebody else, and it happens to be in your yard. Nothing illegal about that.
You need to either find that lost title and bill of sale, or find the current owner. There's no other way for you to get the title transferred.
If you can't find the current owner, I suggest you abandon it somewhere. The cops will find him.

Message: here's what happened to me, i bought a truck and the guy had the title but it wasn't in his name, it was still in the name of the auto lot he bought it from, but i didn't know any better and thought it was clear. i went to the DMV and the lady there told me i couldn't get the title in my name until the guy i bought it from put it in his, which meant i had to find him and he had to do that and also pay the late fees which he never paid in the first place. well the phone # i had for him was disconnected (suprise!!!) and the address he gave me was to an abandoned house!!! looking back now i shouldn't have met him at a parking lot to see the truck, i should have went to his house so i would know where he lived. so anyway i have the truck sitting behind the garage and using it for parts for the other truck i bought (which i have the title to) because they are the same. i know it's still not legal but the car lot is no longer in business either, so i'll get what i can off it then scrap the rest.
