Subject: Rear tail lights won't turn off! IP: Logged
Message: Hey All,
Thought I would post this repair solution;
I found the rear tail lights (not brake lights) of my 01 Durango staying on. The vehicle hadn't moved since I came back from fishing 2 days ago and the lights had not been on for long since the battery wasn't dead. The Dodge OEM 7 pole trailer light connector was hot to the touch and I could smell burnt plastic. I guess water got in the plug and cooked the plastic (yeah weird...) as there is visible burning on the back side of the connector, either that it was defective.
Disconnecting the 7 pole connector turned of the tail lights, replacement part is $17 from Dodge.

Message: Well worth remembering, DSW. Right after I got my
02 with tow package I sealed the back of that 7
pole connector plug. Now no water can get in from
that direction. I also put a LOT of dielectric
grease inside the plug.
Might wanna do that after you install your
replacement..

Message: I just had the same issue, I smelt the burning plastic at my
trailer lights (6 prong) and sprayed it out with some high
pressure air and WD-40 and it's all good now!
