Message: Lately my truck has been a little sluggish. It does it when I leave stop lights after it shifts from 1-2. Mostly around the 1500-2200 (roughly) mark. It seems I want it to go, so I slowly give it more gas, but the truck doesn't really want to. If I go far enough it down shifts back into 1st and takes off like a rocket. And I've also been getting a little bit of surging at highway speeds (50-65). The plugs were replaced 4 months ago (darn creekbed), and the wires are 8 months old. Last time this happened to me was in a 87 Olds and it was the throttle pos. sensor. It is the same thing, or what???? OR could that just be related to the water logged tranny I had form that darn creekbed?

Message: I have been having the exact same problem with my 99 5.2. The dealer replaced all wires and plugs, rerouted the wires (they have a tsb that indicates the wiring can short each other out if they run parallel), and finally I had a transmission service done. They felt it was not a wiring issue, but a torque converter issue. After the transmission service completed, no change, still have the same problem.
If you find a better answer, please post it. I am tired of the problem, and am wondering if it is a transmission one ($$$$$).
Good Luck,

Message: My 96 would do the same thing but it would buck like crazy at highway speeds. It was under warranty, so off it went to the dealer. They said it was the TPS and replaced it. Works like a charm ever since. Tech did say that the cheapo gas I was using caused it to go bad. Probably coated it with a lot of crud. I then switched to Chevron and all my parts stay clean.

Message: TPS = Throttle Position Sensor I believe is what he was referring to.
Good luck with your problem.

Message: I'm going to replace it later tonight, the TPS. Very few parts stores carry the TPS around here so I had to order it. Kinda hard to imagine since the 318 is such a popular engine (Rams and Dak forever) Maybe they changed something about it, anyway. It worked in my old Cutlass, so I hope it works here also.
As far as the tranny thing. It might be part of the problem also. I do have my SES light on, and it's referring to the torque converter sensor. I do need to replace that, as soon as I find out where it is on the tranny, if it even there and not somewhere else.
