i have a 01 dak with the 4.7L. i hear a knocking on the right bank; sounds like valve clatter. im gettin oil to the head. my compression is average 160 psi for that side. i dont think my heads are cracked. what could it be if i still have good compression? oh and it blows smoke like a diesel if you get on it.

Congratulations. You've probably broken an exhaust manifold stud on the right side (probably closest to the cab, break is hidden under the exhaust manny cover). I'd even wager the left one is busted too. :O)

Actually, I JUST had the same problem with my 01 4.7 a few weeks ago, luckily the busted studs backed out pretty easily, they're just a bugger to get to. If you have pretty good dexterity and can work in cramped places, you shouldn't need to pull the wheel wells out. However, do yourself a favor and pull the airbox assembly out beforehand. Makes for a much easier day.

Those rear studs are a dealer part, pretty cheap, 2 bux each or so.

g'luck.

Dan
