Subject: clutch issue IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 V8 with a manual transmission.
I got in it tonight and pushed on the clutch pedal to prepare to start the vehicle. I heard a noise that the pedal when all the way the the floor with almost no resistance. I then took my foot off the pedal and raised it up with my toes, it is now stuck in the up (engaged) position.
Simple cable/lever break or something worse?

Message: Well i own a 97 manual trans mine is a v6 and so has a different trans but the dakotas use a hydraulic system for their clutch you will have a master cyclinder on the firewall and a slave cyclinder on the outside of the bellhousing. Without being there looking at it i would say one of three things have gone wrong.
1 Either something has fallen in the pedal linkage under the dash
2 your throughout bearing inside the bellhousing has come apart. (which would require dropping the trans)
3. One of the hydraulic cylinders has broken inside causing it to jam.
I would look for brake fluid as thats what these hydraulics systems use. And i would also post how many miles are on the clutch you have in your truck now. Would give more insight to what could be the problem
Best guess the pedal assembly its easy to check and cheaper then dropping the transmission.

Message: Also you can take off the inspection cover on the bell housing and take alook inside to see if everything is still in place. If you can get the pedal to move again block the wheels and get someone to push the pedal well your looking in through the inspection cover . That will tell you if the problem is the throughout bearing
If it is the throughout bearing it will be in two pieces and the clutch forks will either be jammed on it or on the side closer to the pressure plates.

Message: What color is it ? I'm just wondering, as your response doesn't seem to relate to the helpful info Epyon gave you. We assume you just want to talk about your truck now.
