 Subject: Dakota / Durango Bumpers

I noticed that the Durango's front bumper is different than the Dakota's. The Dakota's have a black painted (or whatever) bumper and the Durango's are all one color. I'm talking about the sports. Has anyone swapped the two? I think I like the Durango bumper is much better looking, but that's just my opinion.

Yes there are different combinations of bumpers and fascias from Dodge. I have a 2001 Dakota Quad cab SLT that came with a chrome bumper and grey lower fascia. I wanted the 1 piece smoothie painted fascia that come on the 2001 RT's. I went to the dealer to find what parts i needed and they always insisted that they come with painted bumper and painted fascia (the 1 piece sport model has fake textured bumper part and can't be painted)had to drag them out on lot to show them what came on RT's they were shocked . Then there was the nightmare of them trying to find the part number for said product and even after running the RT's vin number they said they dont make them.(didnt make sense to me , cuz if you crashed it, what they cant fix it?) After 2 months of not giving up i had a dealer figure it out and it came already painted, sweet! then had to buy other parts for the swap. dont make side brakets for the install they said, he took them off a new sport model on the lot. Got the look i wanted and they only charged me $425.00 including parts. looks great. will post pics when roll pan and rims are done.

Forgot to mention. If you have a Sport model it is an easy switch to the new Fascia, was only complicated for the SLT. I needed to purchase the Bumper bar and all the brackets. I also have a 1 piece fascia from a Durango that is black but it is with out fog lights. anyone interested?

The lower facsia of my SLT front bumper had that gray "fake texture" and was easily painted... by the Dodge paint shop, along with the plastic lower trim pieces of the rear bumper.

at first i just painted the black piece. then 2 years, and a couple of rock chips latter I had the licence plate holes in the valance shaved and both pieces painted.

I just finished chroming out the front end of my 2001 quad cab and now I need to do the back bumper. Does anybody have a good web site for an
all chrome rear bumper. A set of 20's are next and Ill be good to go.
