 Subject: Door Locks buzz

Dads truck .. 2000 4wd has a passenger door lock problem. It buzzes and looks like the stalk is trying to rise but doesn't. Even when trying the key in the passenger door..same thing; a buzz but no Unlock. It does lock by itself.
Is this a familiar issue and how do these locks work? Solenoid or small motor?

It's A lock and solinoid all in one. You have to change it as a unit.
