as most of u on here know that have read my posts of late havin problems with no bus on dash no gauges and all idiot lights stay on truns out the brainy engineers at dodge corp seen fit to run a wire harness right on top of the emergancy brake when applied the teeth on it rub on the harness chewing through it i guess the info wire that runs the dash(either purple or white/black strip)is the first to get it and grounds out to the ebrake causing a NO BUS to the dash mines a 99 but im sure others are like this easy to check look up under dash on top of ebrake apply brake by hand and see if the teeth rub on the harness if so it wont be long if u use you ebrake alot like me till youll be fixin this too(not a fun thing to do its way up under there have to pull ebrake but can be done without pullin dash)so for now till u know i would advise not to use ebrake on daks mostly u guys with sticks that use em all the time id really check this out first and i hope this helps someone else with this problem its a real head scratcher ive been tracin it 3 days now was ready to get out the BFH and have at it but found it before that

u said that right they dont have a clue and another thing u think one of these BRIGHT HIGHLY PAID AND UNDER SKILLED factory workers might have said gee this might rub and fry something out maybe we should put a 5 cent metal shield over or around it but who knows maybe they did and dodge shot em down on it but its fixed and hope someone else can use this post to find there problem so they dont have to hunt for it for 3 days

one quick question how do you adjust the e brake on these trucks. 01 dak 4.7 4x4 club cab with the manual.

if im right its under the truck on the cable itself might be different on your year though yup just looked real quick on 99 its on the cable back right in front of the drivers side front leaf spring mount looks pretty rusted on mine hope i dont have to mess with it lol another thing with an e brake usually dont need ajusted unless u need new rear brakes might wanna check them first before adjustin it good luck

Underpaid factory workers? really?
I'm not questioning their brightness at all (they might even know how to use punctuation), but they are NOT underpaid at the UAW.
On the otherhand, I've witnessed some dumb engineering in my day, but without them, there are no cars or trucks. Period.
Ok, I'm done with my rant. I'm glad you tracked that down. Shorts are always fun.
FYI, I previously owned a 2000 5 spd and used the e-brake all the time with out a hitch. I guess I got lucky.

if u look back haha i said HIGHLY PAID and UNDER SKILLED and as for my punctuation i may not have finished high school but i retired at 45 not bad for a drop out but id rather worry about getting my point across or fixing the car/truck then where to dot the I and cross the T i even miss spell alot too but i get the thing fixed and thats what counts and i hope it helps others too

Alright - you caught me being dislexic again (close to the end of the day at work, probably why I was a d!ck to begin with anyways, sorry).
In all honesty, just use a period every once in a while and it will make it much easier for everyone else to read.
But like I said before, good job tracking that short down. Anyone else would have paid thousands for someone else to look at it and then have them replace the front right blinker thinking that was the problem, then the diff, and then the rear passenger side seat, and, well ... you see where I'm going with that.
Congrats on a job well done!

Your truck is NINE YEARS old and a wire rubbed through. Think maybe the harness may have sagged after all these years? Many a slip between design. assembly, and backyard heros digging under the dash after that many years...
