Subject: Electrical issue....

Hi everyone! I recently bought a 1999 Dakota sport with a 5.2L V8. I got it from a dodge dealer with an after market 6-cd changer installed by the previous owner. About a week after I had it, the ABS and BRAKE light came on upon starting the ignition. These lights didn't stay on and didn't come on all the time. On top of that, the interior dome lights click on and off rapidly at times upon ignition. Furthermore, the door locks will randomly lock/unlock when it rains (i think i read about this being a general defect). I don't drive it much, but the last time i drove it (about 100 yards to my neighbors house) all of the gauges on the dash went to zero, the check engine light came on, and the low fuel warning light came on. Before I could pull into my driveway the gauges all went back to normal.
I think that's all the problems I'm having. If anyone has any idea what this could be, please let me know. I took it into the shop this past Monday to get diagnostics and haven't heard anything yet. My guess is that it has to do with whoever installed the cd player, but who knows....Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Matt, get it back to the stealership and tell them
the problem. I would guess you have at least a 30
day warrenty. If the stealership can't find the
problem OR is doesn't act up at the time they are
working on it at least you'll have it on paper
that you are having this problem within the 30
day warrenty. Something you can fall back on when
your problem does not clear on its own.

I would *guess* at this point you either have a
"CTM" or a grounding problem. It's gonna show its
ugly head sooner or later... You're luckey your
headlights are not going off ....... yet.

I STILL say, electronics does NOT belong in autos.
Just too many spikes, sags, surges etc to deal
with. Great idea (on paper) to control your
engine, lights etc but NOT when it has control
with safety items like headlights, door locks
and now in some autos, "fly by wire" and other
JUNK that goes wrong with the crap they are
building today.

Just my two cents worth...

Thanks everyone! The guy that's looking at it for me had to order a part that he thinks will fix it. He also said he would have to go into the dash to fix it. I'll let him know about the other possible causes as well. Thanks again!
