Subject: Help P1491..... IP: Logged
Message: Hello there, long story short, I threw a P1491 (P1491 Rad Fan Control Relay Circuit An open or shorted condition detected in the radiator fan control relay circuit) about a month ago, as usual the Rad fan relay was fried so I replaced it. A new problem has started now, when I turn my ignition on, the check engine light comes on and low and behold it is P1491. This happens every time I turn on my ignition!! I have a superchips programmer so I just clear the code and I am good to go. There is nothing wrong with the Rad fan relay this time, so I am wondering what else it could be?? Any suggestions?? Thanks!!

Message: Did you check to make sure the fan did indeed
come on after replacing the relay? Easy way to
find out is to put system into defrost or run the
air cond.

Message: Thats a big negative on the fan working,.. I did some diagnostics today though, and I am looking for someone to maybe verify my fears of needing a new PCM. The fan does indeed work, I jumped the circuit at the relay and turned on the fan. The relay itself works, checked it with a DVOM and battery charger to make it function, plus I have tried 3 different relays all with the same results. I checked all wiring, from PCM to relay, no opens, both fuses are good, the 10amp one in the dash and the 30 amp in the distribution center. Its simply sounds like the PCM is refusing to drop the signal (Neg) when it needs to. Turning on the AC does not turn on the fan, the only way I can get that darned fan to turn on is to hard wire it!!! Sorry for the long post, but the last item is the PCM correct?? P.S. There are no other burned out fuses that I could find anywhere, AC, etc... Thanks again!!!
