Subject: High Idle and Exhaust Leak IP: Logged
Message: My 2002 4.7 idles high and erratically and there is a minor exhaust leak. What i was thinking was that there is some sort of valve that goes from the exhaust to the throttle body that is causing the throttle body to get dirty and the exhaust leak. I cleaned the throttle body and it ran perfect for a couple weeks until the throttle body got dirty again. I think it may be part of the emission system that is malfunctioning and causing exhaust to go into the throttle body. I was looking around on the internet and i found an air management valve?? which may be what it is malfunctioning. Any ideas??

Message: Are you talking about the EGR system? There might be some checks for the EGR valve. Maybe it's stuck open all the time? I'll let someone who's actually worked on the EGR stuff take it from here!

Message: Surge could be a bad TPS. No EGR to the throttle body on a 4.7. Did you take the TB off to clean it, so you could clean the IAC ? Don't twist the plunger.
