Message: I own it strictly for the looks. The stock engine isnt all that anyway. I already drive over 100mph one the weekends in my race car. Dont really need anymore tickets on the street. Besides 80% of the time traffic barely goes 60 where I live.

Message: You can always work for peak efficiency, even with an R/T. Keep the tire pressure up, clean low restriction air filter, hi-flow y-pipe/cat. converter/exhaust, synthetic fluids, etc. The R/T 5.9 has considerable torque. Use this to your advantage to reach high gear as soon as possible, and soft pedal the throttle to keep in in high gear/lockup. If you get caught at the beginning of a really long traffic light, shut the engine off. Driving for mpg is like a savings account: when you need the power on occasion, your ready for a painless "withdrawal".

Message: That's what I was trying to do. If you like a certain vehicle overall, and gas mileage is the only issue, any minor changes will make you happy. I've given thought to buying a used R/T myself, but I know I would have to apply some of the mpg mods of my '01 RC 4.7 NV3500 that gets 20mpg to justify it.

Message: I am not ready to install a french fry oil burner or an electric motor any time soon. Just looking to see if there are any tweaks I can do to increase the mpg a little. I Drive about 100 miles a day and would like to take the R/T more often. Wondered if tire height/width, rear gear, or an aftermarket computer chip would help.

Message: Tires can make a difference. You will want to find tires with the least amount of rolling resistance. A street tread will be better than an All Terrain tread, and Passenger Rated tires are lighter than Light Truck rated tires.
Regarding tire diameter, you will want to find out which RPM your engine is most efficient and try to match tire size to that. I can imagine that thinner tires would have less rolling resistance than wider tires, and proper air pressure is critical.
What is the speed limit on the road you drive? Keeping your speed down can save gas, but you want to keep the engine's most efficient RPM in mind too. I read a study a while back that showed that most cars get better mileage at 65 MPH than they do at 55 MPH, but if you go much over 65 your MPG drops back down again. I guess one of those onboard computers would be handy for this!

Message: I had a hypertech programer and gained about 0.5 city mpg and 0.3 highway mpg. Thats about 3% gian. That is on the 5.2, but should yeild similar results with the 5.9.
For a few hundred, you can pick up an electric fan to replace the mechanical fan. Some people claim 0.5 mpg gains. For me, there was no significant gains.
If you have 3.92 gears, you would be wasting money to go to 4.1's unless someone would trade you for yours. Then you would be out only the istall cost. 4.56 would be the best bang for the buck. They will help your city mileage and speed the truck up substantially. And if you only drive 55 to 60, your highway mileage should stay unchanged.

Tirerack.com is a great place to start. You can see what's out there and compare tires side by side, as well as get customer's reviews. There's also an online application guide that will show you all the tires that are available for your vehicle.

Message:
The only way to get good gas mileage is to knock down the crooked government in alliance with their evil corporations that are gouging the gas prices.
This is how 1% of the US population is hording 99% of OUR MONEY!
Yes, the oil doesn't really cost that much, as the corporations admitted by reporting record profits.
Why don't Americans get together and revolt? It doesn't have to be bloody, just organize a tax boycott to shut down the crooked government side of things, and pull all your money out of the stock market (evil corporations are using your own money to enslave you).
Put your money in a bank. Let the banks get rich honestly, and so will you.
By the way gas prices are spiking again which is odd since the crooks usualy do that in the summer.

Message: Hey "See All"! What school of economics did you go to????
Those banks you are telling everybody to put their money in is the reason oil prices are going up in the fall/winter instead of the summer. All the BullSh!t loans the banks gave out over the past 10 years has doubled the size of the average house. Most houses are heated during the winter and the bigger the house the more fuel is required to heat it. So, by putting all our money in the banks we are giving the banks the ability to give more people big loans that can't afford them. Then they buy big houses with those big loans. Therefore, to drive down the cost of oil in the winter months you should take all your money out of the banks.
Banks can't give subprime loans to people with shakey credit if they have no money to loan.
