Subject: Filter Pieces in A/C Vents IP: Logged
Message: I have recently been seeing pieces of what is obviously a mesh filter that is dry-rotted in my A/C vents. Can anyone tell me where this filter lives so I can replace it. Thanks in advance.

Message: It might be pieces of the foam insulation found in between the mating surfaces of the AC vents and the back side of the dash. Or it could be from one of the blend doors found on the evaporator housing. You can check at least the fresh air inlet door by removing the glove box and looking up at the blend door housing. There's a foam seal stuck to the edges of the door. Does the AC and vents blow adequate air or are there any air leaks anywhere? What year is the truck? What color are the pieces of foam you are seeing? I seem to remember the insulation beind the vents in the dash is a tan color but at the blend door it is a dark gray. My guess is if it's blowing up and out the vents from way inside the foam bits would be off a blend door. If so you may have to remove the evaporator housing to fix it.

Message: The foam fragments are dark grey, almost black. Typical mesh for filtering large things like bugs, leaves, etc. Thanks for the post. If it involves removing the evap. housing then I will just do without it. (My Dak is a 2000 R/T)
