Subject: Replacing the tranny...

Message:
I recently got the SES code 37, it seems as if it is the Torqueconvert sensor. I know that when I burried my truck in a creekbed, it gained many qts of water. I was towed about 8 miles behind a Cheby, but didn't actually drive the truck. All the water was removed, but I was still warned by the mechanic that I might need to replace the tranny in 6-12 months since the bands are made of a water-soluable adhesive. (go figure since it's a truck) SInce the tranny has been acting kinda funny lately, here is my debate. Should I go to the Jet A500 tranny or should I go to the 5spd? I want a 5spd, but I want to keep it under $3K. I know that a 5spd is cheaper, but how much should I expect in various other parts such as the hyd lines and various other things?

Any comments would be great, thanks in advance.

I might have another 2-3months left, so I need to act fast.

Boomer,It's a huge undertaking to go from auto to manual, the parts alone just for all the clutch pieces(pedal, pedal bracket, hyd.cylinder, crossmember, floor shifter, etc) would cost a fortune! Plus it may not work with your computer, there's another $300 or so.Just stick with an auto! Trust me,you'll be glad you did! BTW did you drain the converter?

I thought it would be a big pain the the butt, I was just trying to get ideas. I took it to a guy who has been a friend and our mechanic for quite some time. He drain the fluid, refilled it, drained it, re filled it, drove it 1/4 mile, drian and refill x2, drove it again, drain and refill x2 again. Finally he just left it in gear, chocked the wheels, and constantly poured new fluid into the tranny until it came out looking like it should, and not the pepto look. (He had it disconnected at the tranny cooler) A few guys I've talked to say that the pressure flush would've worked well also, and without going through 2 cases of fluid. IT's done and now the tranny, more like the converter acts funny sometimes. 3 times in the past 3 months it has slipped. I was trying to jump into 60+mph traffic from a dead stop. People in Jersey never go anything less than 10 above the limit AAARRGGHH!!! And to top it off, I have some sensor from the converter giving me SES #37. I hope it's just me, but I really don't that is true, the tranny that is.

Thanks for the advice.
