Subject: Ignition switch

I have a 2001 dodge dakota v-6 automatic.After switching off my truck the key will not release from the ignition .I have tried everything wiggling jiggling the key pulling really hard.taking it in and out of gear.still it will not release.I assume I need a new switch.anyone ever had this problem?Or know what it would cost to replace the switch.

hadn't happened on my dak but it happened to my sisters '96 thunderchicken. really easy to change that cylinder out. used a Haynes manual and bought the cylinder at A/Z. came with 2 keys. took about 1-2 hrs.

I wished I owned the company that sold these lock cyls to Chrysler. prob ordered 2500 of these in the last 5-6 years alone. Try this first we found it works 90% of the time before taking out the cyl to remove the key. Get a small hammer ( READ SMALL) and with the key in the off position gently tap the head of the key in, then pull straight out try it a cpl of time before giving up. then lube the cylinder neatly . this might hold you for a cpl weeks but you will need an updated cylinder

Can any one tell me how to change the ignition switch in my 89 dakota, I can't seem to get the old switch out.
