My 2000 dodge dakota 3.9 V6 will not idle. when i hold the gas pedal it will run run and when i step onthe fuel it revs right up. I have a immobilizer in it also. Once i play with the gas pedal and disconnect the battery a few times the truck will run fine. Any idea what the problem could be. I have 150000 kms on it. I checked on a fuel filter and supposivly it is on the fuel pump. Any ideas?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yah, maybe the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on the throttle body? If it doesn't know you're at idle, then it can't provide a signal to adjust the air/fuel to run the engine at idle.

They're probably different now, but in the OBDI days, there were 3 positions in those things (idle, normal, full throttle). If not properly sealed, those contacts could corrode internally and render one or more of the positions useless to the computer -- making the car run funny at one of those intervals.

If you can determine which wires going into the TPS signal which run level, it may be possible to simply shunt the idle wire to it's ground (fooling the computer into thinking the throttle is at idle) using wire soldered to two sewing needles piercing the wire's insulation.

If the truck runs at idle after that, you have your culprit.

Justa thot.

try this first but, it may not help since you've disconnected the battery and ereset the PCM.

read codes by turning the key on/off/on/off/on and the odometer will display the codes as PXXXX. when done it will display Pdone. if you get any codes it will help point us in the right direction.

it could be a few things, the (dirty)IAC, TPS, weak battery, just to name a few.
