Message: I have owned my Dak for about three months now. One thing I dislike is the lack of control for the A/C. For instance, nice fall day in Georgia, temp in low 70s, I am on the freeway and sun load alone is warming the cabin considerably. All I want is fresh outside air to come in, but I can't get it without the A/C going on, and the resultant loss in gas mileage. With the temp knob on cool, any setting on the function control will turn on the A/C. Why is this? Any mods to get around it?

Message: My hvac has a separate button to kick on the compressor. Not that it matters, as you'll only get fresh hot air from the vents without the a/c on, but that's just another endearing dakota trait ;(. Some day I'll get around to insulating all those a/c hoses.....

Message: Mark, is a separate button an option? What year is yours? If I can find what wire the button controls I can put in my own.

Message: I've got an '01 quad cab with the sports plus package. I don't believe it is a separate option, but is added when the a/c is added. There is no separate switch for the recirculate/fresh air option, but that is controlled by the vent knob.
