Message: I'm just wondering what brand/model of floor jack you guys use when needed?
I have a craftsman 3T floor jack that is broke and I'm trying to get sears to refund my money.
The jack is out of warranty - 1 year warranty - but sears service centers 'no longer work on jacks'. Maybe I'm just being a little biznatch but I expect sears to service their own craftsman branded products especially when in the owners manual it says they do.
anyways I'm on the market looking for a new jack. Must be at least 3T and lift to at least 20" and not be a craftsman.

Message: Try Northern Tool. They have good prices and from what I know they have good quality products. I think their website is www.northerntool.com.
Good luck.

Message: I did look at northern tool. I also looked at TSC.
I am going to try to fix my broken craftsman, I think it's just the release value that is damaged/bad.
Also, I finally resolved my issue with Sears. The nice folks in their "recovery" department saw my side of the story and are sending me out a $100 gift card.
I think what it was is they saw my purchase history with sears (garage cabinets, a ton of hand tools, power tools, carpet steam cleaner, kitchen items - basically a lot of high dollar items), I was nice, I detailed every interaction (name, date, missed promised return calls, groups called, etc).
It never hurts to be told different things by tools manager, store manager, 2 service centers, craftsman, sears holdings (corporate), owners manual.
It took over 2 weeks but things finally are resolved.

Message: I bought a $70.00 two and a half ton floor jack
from a surplus outlet.
Only thing that I had to replace on it so far is
the "O" rings on the pump piston. Easy fix!
It's five years old.. I'd say I got my moneys
worth................ so far...

Message: Check the jack over before you buy. Lots afe cheap junk from over seas. Use a good set of stands also.

Message: I have 2 sets of jack stands. 2T that I use with my wife's car and a set of 6T 24" jack stands I use with my truck.
I've been looking locally for a used high end jack. The ones I've been finding are still $200.

Message: I looked for a floor jack myself too. So far I haven't really had need of one, but I thought it would make it easier when I rotate my tires here at home. I never did find one with enough lift at a decent price, so I have just been using the scissor jack that came with my truck. I put a piece of a 2x4 under it on the ground to get a little more lift if I need it.

Message: Just remember guys, NEVER NEVER NEVER
get under your truck with JUST the jack
holding it up.
A $70.00 jack up to a $1070.00 jack can
fail in a heart beat.
Take the time and use safety jacks also.

Message: No matter what work I'm doing under my truck, if it's lifted off the ground, I have both jack stands under it. I never use just one.
There are several rolling jacks that lift to 20 or 21" and that's enough for me.
I just need to find a quality one, craftsman isn't it.

Message: I also have 2 pairs of good jack stands that I use when I need to put my truck up in the air. I learned that lesson long ago when a car fell on a guy in the auto shop class at my high school. It crushed his head, killing him instantly. I don't even like changing a flat on the side of the road with just the jack.

Message: I agree Jimmy. In the late 90s, I was doing some field work and drove the company chevy lumina. I got a flat tire driving on the highway. I pulled over to change it and found a factory scissor jack and 4 way lug wrench. I bent the 4 way lug wrench (I had to stand on it) loosening the lugs (car was always serviced at a local shop where they used air ratchets). I was not too happy, but was able to get all lugs off. In jacking up the car, the scissor jack bent as well. Lucky for me, I was near the end of an on ramp onto the highway. Across the highway was a blue and white tire service. Service tech looked at me like "You can't change a tire?"..that was until we drove out and saw the bent 4 way and jack. He made quick work using a rolling floor jack and gas powered air ratchet.
moral of the story, never trust a jack even if it's brand new (I doubt this jack had ever been used), never crawl under a vehicle unless it's properly supported and shops always over torque lugs.

Message: My 1 1/2 ton Craftsman floor jack was made Sep 1986, and has served me well over the years, even though it was made in Taiwan even then. But their quality has declined. I had a Great Neck torx bit set that wasn't hardened, and I twisted the bits. When I complained, their VP of quality told me that they supply tools to Sears under the Craftsman name. I was less impressed, not more.
