Message: I'm in the market for new speakers. I have a 2001 Dakota Club Cab 4x4 Sport package. I know the speakers in the front are 6.5". Anyone know what size the rear speakers are and how to get to them? How do I remove the back paneling.

Message: The rear is also 6.5" Assuming you know how to remove the front panels, the rear are the same. If you don't:
Remove all screws- don't forget the one behind the door handle
Unplug wire harness-
The door latch and lock is a little tricky at first, and a little hard to explain- push the connection toward the inside of the truck and snap the male metal post up/out of the female plastic reciever. I thought I was going to break mine the first time I did it, but those things are just tough. Same goes for the front panels, door latch, and door lock.
Also, be sure to keep your stock speakers because you can use the stock plastic spacers for your new speakers. Some people make thier own out of plywood or something, and that's fine too. But, I just pried apart the speaker from the spacer with a screwdriver and drilled 3 holes in the stock spacers, and they work great. They screw right back in with the existing hardware and you don't have to worry about window glass clearance issues.

Message: Hollis has it right for the front door speakers, just don't forget the 2 phillips screws at the very bottom egde of the door panel, and lift the door panel up, don't pry out to remove it.
For the rear speakers, they are 6.5" as well. Start by removing the back seat cushion panel on the back wall of the cab. I think it just snaps in with 10 or 12 push in fasteners. Open the side windows & unscrew the latches from the truck side of the latch, remove the upper seat belt bolt, and the top half of the side panel snaps out too. It helps to remove the weatherstripping on the edge of the door openeing along that edge too. Then you should see a few phillips head screws at the top section and also 2 on the side in the right side edge of the lower part of the side panel, and there are one or two at the bottom as well. Remove all the screws and work your way out of the truck with it. When I did the system in my 2001 CC, I removed the plastic tool tray under the rear bottom seat cushions too, but I don't think you have to remove it to get to the rear 6.5's. It might make it easier to get the panels out, though.
It's not as bad as it sounds. Just takes time and patience. Good luck with it.

Message: I dont want to take over someones thread but I think the OP got the response he was looking for. My question is, would this be the same for a 2007 QC install and speaker size?
Thanks

Message: don't know about '07's but the '00-'04 QC's standard system had 4 speakers, one in each door. stock was 6.5" but you can with no mods use 6.75".
for the '07 try www.crutchfield.com. that site should be able to tell you what fits

Message: I bought a set of Alpine Type-R components for the front and rear and man what a difference. I am just pushing them with a weak Sony C.D. player. I will soon go amplified on it though. They hit pretty good for their size. I recommend to anybody.
Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer. well at least a stock one
