Subject: Bad Tranny or just controller module? IP: Logged
Message: I've got a 93 Dakota, tranny has always had trouble with upshift into 4th (or overdrive) when the weather was cold, in summer, no problems at all. Just suddenly yesterday, it started doing this again really severely.... then it would be ok for a few miles, then doing it again, and now it goes into reverse, but won't back uphill. How do I determine if the tranny is shot, or if it is a malfunction of the solenoid controller thing (I think that's what it's called)

Message: Well, it's 15 years old. When was the last fluid change and band adjustment?

Message: I don't think I've ever had the bands adjusted. I bought the truck at 75K and immediately had the fluid changed at that time, but haven't since. It now has 122K. I did some research and found out about turning the key off/on/off/on to get an error code... but I got code 55.

Message: If it's an auto, it's a bad tranny as YOU said.
