 Subject: transmission prob

2000 dakota v6 auto. tranny shifts to second gear ok but shifting to third, tack revs up 1k rpm and then shifts into gear. only happens when cold. no codes thrown. fluid level ok and not burned. seems to be slipping out of gear before shifting to 3rd. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

Get ready to shell out BIG bucks for a tranny
rebuild, joevit. The sad fact is, no one and I
mean NO ONE knows ANYTHING about tranny
rebuilding. You'll have nothing but problems after
the so called rebuild.
My advice, trade.

There are people out there who understand tranny rebuilding; but they may be few and far between. I won't claim to be one of them, but I think it sounds like the band for that gear might need to be adjusted or replaced. Ask around at some of the repair shops near you to see if there is a consensus on who is a good transmission specialist in your area.
