Subject: Overhead console IP: Logged
Message: My 2001 4.7L QC didn't come with the overhead computer option. It just has the plain ol' garage door opener, etc. If I find a overhead console with computer at a junkyard or somewhere, can I hook it up in my truck? Will the PCM work it? What about for the outside temp; where is the sensor? I would really like the outside temp. and mpg and stuff. Can I can I?
Why didn't the tool who originally ordered the truck get that option...?
Please help. Thanks.

Message: You will have to find a truck with the overhead unit and the wiring for it since the truck doesn't come set up for it. Yes the PCM will work with it. You just need to follow all the wires from the unit down into the dash and find the connectors they plug into. Then carefully remove the wires AND pins from the connector and make sure you take notes about their location in the connector. Then all you have to do is find the SAME connector under your dash and plug the pins in the SAME location as they were in the donor truck. Then you need to buy the sensor for the outside air temp and plug it into the harness.... and I think that is taped up somewhere on the radiator core support on the passenger side. I did all this to my 99 and everything worked fine JUST MAKE SURE YOU PLUG THE PINS IN THE RIGHT LOCATION <<<< I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU DON'T AND THEN RECONNECT THE BATTERY .........

Message: I know someone who sells a kit with the overhead console, mirror and wiring instructions. I installed kit on my '04 and it works fine. However, the last time I wrote about it on this board, I was severely flammed. If you want to know where you can get the kit, just leave another message and I'll post a link. The kit is pricey, but does work well and takes out much of the guess work.

Message: Forsetti, et, al.,
What are you talking about?
I've added the O/H puter tyo my SLT Quad Cab 2001.
I'M the one who ordered my truck, without the $300 invoice price for the puter. (I only paid invoice, anyone who pays over that either isn't informed, is wanting a HARD to get vehicle, or doesn't even realize they're being pressured by a con artist. When one came up on this site, new, for $80 shipped, I jumped at it. Then researched it for weeks.
THERE'S ONLY THREE WIRES TO THE PUTER!!!!
One +, a ground, and a 'PCI BUS' wire. The bus wire digitally carries all the info, ONE WIRE!!
Look in the archives, and if you'd like, e-mail me, I have a truck, same year, etc, and I'VE DONE THIS! Don't listen to others when they haven't done it.

Message: Oh ok. I couldn't think of a reason why someone wouldn't get the computer from the factory, but you do have a good reason. The link Mr.Anonymous provided is the first place I've found so far that has them, $240 though. Oh well, unless I find one somewhere else, it would be worth the $240. It will be a couple of weeks until I have the $ anyways...
Thanks ya'll

Message: I have done 4 of these so far texas ... and what i posted before was the most easy for someone to do ..... and you FORGOT one wire .... the fused panel lamp dimmer switch signal wire ..... so there will be a TOTAL of 4 wires he will need to run .. and following the donor truck wiring to the connector is the most easy way to do it ......

Message: I am in the process of trying to figure this out, I have an 02 dakota and I already have the console from an 01 durango (I am parting it out). The problem I have is they don't match up to be the same size, my 02 console is larger and the new one will not cover the gaps in the headliner. I am thinking I may sell this one and find one from an 02 or 03.
And your 01 will work fine with the console from what I understand. I don't know but I am pretty sure my truck already has the connector on the harness.
Would you be interested in my 01 console w/homelink and partial harness w/connector and backing plate? I am in northwest Indiana (near chicago)
