Message: Hey guys, I have a 99 with a 5.2 and the fuel gauge go's in and out. Sometimes it works and then it stops and the gauge falls to the empty side of the gauge. Can anyone point me down the right path.

Message: Dakota's, and Dodge in general have the most mysterical gas gauges in the world! They sit on full forever, they drop like a rock through the middle, and then sit at empty forever! I don't think I've ever seen my needle in the middle!
In regards to the problem though, you probably have a short in your pump assemble, which unfortunately enough involves dropping the tank to swap!
