Message: hey guys. so im a mechanic but not at a toyota dealer but i know a few. and they are having real problems with the new 5.7s the valve clips are breaking and you know what that means... the valves are dropping into the cylinders. and i quote from a toyota tech. "we are replacing these 5.7s as they are breaking in" ok so i have to admit.. i do get kind of a "guilty" pleasure out of this if you would say. that the all mighty toyota are "human" and oh my god!!!!! stop the world!!!! they made a mistake!!! haha. just thought you guys should know. anybody else herd of this? i know that nobodys talking about it. bc toyota can NEVER do ANYTHING wrong. because we all know how everybody jumps the gun on american pieces of crap. you guys know what i mean.

Message: It doesn't surprise me. Vehicles are complicated pieces of equipment, and innovations have to be made every model year in order to remain competitive. Mistakes in design and manufacture are bound to be made. Toyota HAD the most reliable compact trucks back in the seventies and eighties, at a time when American vehicles were at their worst. Since then, things seem to have evened out - the quality of American vehicles has greatly improved, whereas the quality of Japanese vehicles has declined. Toyota has an excellent Marketing department that has chosen to make Toyota ownership into a culture. It's a snooty culture at that, so when a major defect is discovered on one of their vehicles, it does give me a chuckle. Having experienced shoddy quality in one of the Toyotas I owned in the past, I also have to sympathize with the owners. It's a real eye-opener to discover Toyotas are the same as any other vehicles. Live and learn.

Message: Toyotas were so successful in the 1970s and early eighties because they were no frills, 4 banger vehicles that had no creature comforts. When there is only a 4 cyl. engine and a manual transmission and no a/c, no power options of any kind (including steering) and a rough riding bench seat, there was not much to break, that was their success. It was a great vehicle because of simplicity. It is like having a pnuematic nailgun vs. a steal shaft hammer... while less comfortable the hammer will outlast any nailgun. Now that toyota is making creature comforts, big "fuel efficient computer controlled v8s, they will obvious have a greater chance of having mechanical issues.

Message: yes i noticed that too. that toyota owners have a little snooty attitude to them. man i have to admit i would like to straiten them out sometimes. just kind of gets annoying ya know. and toyota does have a better marketing than the americans though. but it all evens out in the end.

Message: And eventually, toyota's quality will creep down to a level even with the "big three".
That's why I buy Korean.
