Subject: codes 0051 and 0152 IP: Logged
Message: I was having P0172 (think it was). The overhead puter was telling me I was getting crappy mileage, seemed to run fine though.
I bought a universal O2 sensor, and due to time contraints, I just cleaned the sensor, (the inside), with carb cleaner, and reinstalled it.
NOw it pulls the above codes,...but......
The gas mileage is back where it should be.
~22mpg @65mph, vs 15mpg
Now that my mpg is back, what is this code, and why do I need to fix it?
TIA

Well, at least that's what the Superchips manual says. Sounds like the O2 sensor is going bad or still having problems. As far as replacing the sensor, I would replace it since you know that something's not right with it, could last for 2 years or 2 days...

Message: You are right.
Even though my 01, 4.7, Dak is now getting the usual MPG again, there's obviously a problem with the sensor still.
The carb cleaner must have fried the sensor somehow.
Problem is, the universal one has to be cut and spiced, at a 50% savings over the OEM, ready to plug one. $150 vs $75. I make 6 figures, but I still will save money when I can.
I think I have the correct splicing sequence via the installation directions, with a big chart and color codes, etc.
I'll give it a try soon.

Message: Go to oemdodgeparts.com and get a factory replacement so you don't have to monkey with the universal o2 sensor. I ordered both and it was a little over $100, the upstream sensor was around $35 .

Message: DSW,
I called them off the website, they had the OEM for the same price as the universal!
Good thing I haven't tried, or opened the connector package in the universal I bought, so I can return it.
we'll see how it turns out, ordered it today,
Thanks

Message: No worries Todd.
I had all of the same trouble codes with my dak. I don't know about you but I had to replace 4!
I ordered them and two did not match the connectors I had, so I just cut the wires and spliced the old connector onto the new O2 sensor and it works fine now. And I know nothing about electronics except that your not supposed to get them wet.
I do have a 160 I.Q. so maybe that helped.

Is that IQ in metric, or American? ;-0
Mines that +,
OEMdodgeparts.com matched the universal price, so I'm going to wait a few days and plug right in.

Message: Yeah I like OEMdodgeparts.com, they have some really cheap parts.
Whats your I.Q.?
Cause most people don't realize the average is about 110. 160 + would be equal to a genius.
Just for fun, I took an I.Q. test when I was stoned and I scored a 138. Lets see you beat that when your not sober! :)
and its 1 HOT KADOTA! Not dakota.

1hotdak, I'm sure you're an intelligent person, etc.
When I metioned anying about salaries, I was merely pointing out that I try and save money where I can, if it's worth it.
The OEM one is on the way, and will have it inastalled soon. Thanks again DSW

Message: More power to ya Todd for making some coin! That is quite admirable.
In this crazy world of transactions and electronics, a man's ability to make money that shows his ability to adapt and make use of his surroundings. Its like an animal learning its habitat and using it to proliferate and survive in a world against him. And as such, we should all feel proud about how much money we make and the intelligence we inherited.
Now if we really want to get into a pissing match...
what does your best E.T.?
I'll go first
15.54 @ 89 mph
1300' above sea level @ 100 degrees. (AZ sucks)

Message: UPdate,
first of all, 1hotdak, I have a HEAVY, Fast, Quad Cab, manual, 2WD LSD, etc, etc, yadda ,yadda, and never ran it in the quarter. I tried a few Gtech once, and ran a best of 15.6, that was a Gtech though.
I got the new O2 sensor from OEMDodgeparts.com, and after making sure the connector was plugged all the way in (had to squeeze it with my Vice grips), everything is fine, MPG is way back up!
I definitely recommend OEMdodgeparts.com for anything, when you call their 800 #, you get a dodge dealership!
