Subject: Dakota V8 Exhaust Help IP: Logged
Message: I would like to decrease the interior exhaust drone in my truck...what is a good muffler I can buy that is also decent flowing?
My truck is a 02 reg cab v8 with a 5 speed. I replaced the stock muffer and with a flowmaster 40 series and got rid of all the piping after the muffler and replaced that with a 3" dump bolted on to the flowmaster. It is too loud in the cab while driving on the highway..

Message: 50 series and 3" tailpipe works very well. 40,s are only good for hearing damage.

Message: Man, I'm glad someone started this post. I *was*
thinking for going to some "flowmaster" type
system on my 02 V8 when the factory one goes out
but now I have second thoughts.
My old 92 Ram work truck with a V6 has a
flowmaster type muffler and factory tail pipe on
it and the drown in the cab is very hard to take
on the highway.
Before I'll ever install anything like that in my
Dakota I'll have to find someone that has the same
setup and listen to it myself.
A nice *soft* rumble is nice but too loud is nuts
at any cost.

Message: My '04 RC with the 4.7 has a one in dual out 40 series on it with full pipes out the back and you can barely hear it on the highway.

Message: I like the stock exhaust. It's very quiet around town and on the highway, and it has a nice sound when you get on it. I have never understood why people would take a nice, quiet truck and make it sound like a POS by putting a loud muffler on it.

Message: Lee,
Maybe some people (under age 70) like to have a nice sounding truck as opposed to one that can barely be heard.
I guess I have never understood idiots who feel the rest of the world should think the way they do.

Message: I used to have the flowmaster 40 series on my 00 4.7 dakota and swapped it for a magnaflow. Very nice tone and a little quieter than the 40 series. Also is constructed better than the flowmaster and is not supposed to rust (like my flowmaster did).
