Subject: Check Engine Light Code P0340 IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota with 21,000 kms and the check engine light came on today. I did diconnecting the battery, it did go out. Then it reappeared again. I got the code from the odometer and it was a P 0340, which is " No camshaft signal detected during engine cranking"
Is it possible that I can fix this myself? Has anyone had the same code before? I really don't want to go to the dealership. First off I loose a days work, and second I have mods done like a homebrewed intake. You never know what they will say.
Can someone please help me!!!
Thank in advance
Anthony

Message: Turn the key from off to on 3 times and then on the 3rd time you will either see the "P" codes, or "P Done" meaning that there are no codes to show. Then you can go to http://www.obdii.com/codes.asp to look up the value of the code.
Hope this helps,

Message: I knew how to get the code, but I had no idea where to go to find out what the code meant. I am getting a p0455, and was tearing my hair out trying to find what that meant. Thanks for the website, it told me exactly what I needed to know!

Message: Kathy
P0455 is ususally caused by the gas-cap being loose and not sealing properly.

Message: Anthony ... remove the distributor cap and the rotor ... the flat, round camshaft position sensor is held down by 2 (?) crews with wiring leaving the distributor ... carefully check the wiring and the connector for dirt/breaks. Have you had the cap off recently? If nothing wrong with wiring/connector and you have a FSM for your truck, see if there's a description on how to check the sensor's resistance ... if so and resistance does not fall within spec., you'll have to replace the sensor. HTH.
