 Subject: Throttle Body

My dealership said I have a little carbon build up in my throttle body and wanted to charge me $200+ to clean it for me! I was wondering how easy is it to clean this area? I know they sell throttle body spray cleaners but, is that all it is to it?...spray & wipe?
'02 Dakota, 3.9L, 2WD.

You'll find there's a lot of gunk on the bottom of the throttle body. You really need to remove it for a good cleaning. Cleaning the top surfaces that you can see really won't help you much.
Removing the TB isn't that big of a deal. No special tools required. Just be carefull with the plastic bits, as they can get brittle over time.

DO NOT REUSE THE STOCK GASKET! They are cheap and do not cost that much, so please buy a new one. Not too hard to clean. I just removed it. Took all the sensors out and cleaned it with Mean-Green and a toothbrush.
Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer.
