Aside from a sticky brake caliper, what would cause my '94 Dakota to pull to the right when driving forward, and pull to the left when driving in reverse? Tire pressure and brake fluid are up to snuff, and (as far as I can tell, anyway) emergency brake is disengaged. Many thanks.

Probably a bad front end.

A tire alignment will keep your wheels pointing as straight as possible. After the shops gives it back to you, test drive it around and make sure its right, or take it back!

too much caster will cause this, the vehicle will pull to the side with the least amount of caster, except in reverse. get an alignment dude

BEFORE YOU DO ALIGNMENT, check all your steering joints. Sounds to me you have one or more real bad ones.

I am sure that everyone here is aware of this buy maybe not. Dodge has extreme problems with their front end components especially the inner tie rods, outer rods, OF COURSE upper and lower ball joints, and the wheel bearings. When I bought my 98 dakota 5 years ago out of the salvage auction I fixed it and drove it 3 miles to get it inspected with 4 inches of play in the steering wheel. I took it took it to my uncles garage and ended up putting 1200 into new inner and outer tire rods boths sides, and of course ball joints both sides. and wheel bearings. I would say first to check it your self get a jack and lift it up in the front. Then grab the front wheel at 9:00 and at 3:00 and rip it back and forth. If there is any play of clunk let me know. Then grab at 12:00 and 6:00 and do the same.It shold be rather tight. But like most dakotos they are not. The problem is if one way is loose and the other is not. Do not let it go. It WILL affect other areas of suspension.(ie inner/outer tie rods ball joints etc. Let me know thanks.
