Message: 12/16? What Dak is rated for that?
I've got the QC 4x4 which is the biggest Dak made. It's rated at 14/18 and I get about that. I got 19 ONCE on the highway but I usually don't drive it that nice.
32mpg on a truck? That HAD to have been zereoing out the overhead mpg console then taking a drive downhill. Otherwise it's B.S. Many midsized sedans don't touch that yet alone a truck with a lot more air drag at 65 to 75 mpg! Our 2004 MinVan gets a BEST of 25 if I don't go too fast and use cruise control.
Chevy trucks are built like TOOTHPICKS compared to a Ford, LOL! But there is still a lot more air resistance at speed vs a smaller vehicle.

Message: GraphiteDak - the EPA revised their estimates to be more "real world". check out fueleconomy.gov and you'll see what I mean. I posted earlier about them changing their test methodology.
Mine originally came with 14/18 on the window sticker but was revised to 12/16. according to the website it said it was originally 13/18.
I have a fairly led foot and do a alot of punching it to pass people on the right. I drive a 2 lane highway where people in the go lane are in no hurry. Often they are driving less than the speed limit and I still get 16 mpg.
As stated his truck has the active fuel management system. He insisted he divided miles and gallons.

Message: Everybody I know drives trucks. Chevy Duramaxes seem to do best at around 20mpg. Everyone else gets 12 to 17. The Chevy 6.0 is around 12. The little Dodge Caliber is only rated at 32 highway and yet this guys 5500 pound truck gets 32 and a 4x4 at that. I want what he's smokin'. They're are some milage freaks out there who park on hills, cut the ignition going down hill and push alot who get like 70 mpg with civics and stuff. Does this guy have a really long extention cord by chance?

Message: My boss just bought a brand new 07 silverado quad cab 4x4 with the 5.3 liter motor and active fuel management. He drove it home from spokane, WA to salt lake city, UT over 400 miles all highway at 65-70 mph and got 21 mpg and he was babying it.

Message: Most people whp bought a MID SIZED DAK and picked the V8 in it hardly ever baby their trucks. I don't baby mine yet I rarely drop down to 16 on the highway!
I dropped to 9MPG a few times. But that was with a 8,000 Lb Toy Hauler Trailer behind it!!!!!!
I think 18 highway is aboyt what i always get when I calculate it by topping off. Driving some distance, then topping off again. Consistant 18 and once I got 19 when I actually set the cruise for no more than 65 one time!

Message: After two Chevy's and a great little Dakota AWD my 5.7 RC has alot to live up to. The limited slip feature seems to work pretty good but the AWD on the Dakota is better. Power wise the Tundra is a horse and pulls the trailer without any effort. The brakes and traction are far superior to the Chevy's and much bigger than the little Dakota. The Dakota was far superior in driveabilty and handling (AWD, handling pkg, 1850payload). I was spinning wheels and had to use 4x4Low to get my trailer up to my barn and it spins a bit getting in unloaded where the Dakota would walk right in. The Tundra RC is a little longer than the Dakota, but still turns around in the same space inside my 30' hallway. We'll see how it Does.

Message: The second tank of gas through the Tundra got 16.9mpg. Mixed city and country driving with fourty miles pulling a loaded horse trailer. Not bad for a big V8 and a 4.3 rear end.
