Message: "that cyl. would be rich by getting more fuel then it can burn and getting constant fuel
this unburnt "raw" fuel goes out the exhaust
the O2 reads it
then the pcm leans out the other cyls to try and compensate for the problem"
this is possible. reading the spark plugs should indicate which cylinders were running rich and which are lean.

Message: Well tried sea foam, poured right into tb and not to stall motor. some smoke but after awhile went away. STILL PINGS! I will take a look at plugs again, But I did look at them a few months ago to see how they look. They always look like all the cylinders are running lean. Not a nice tan look. None ever look like there running rich. But keep in mind I change plugs once a year. In the mean time any other thoughts would be great.

Message: i think you need to get some kind of scantool or datalogger on that thing so you can see whats going on with the sensors.
have you checked fuel pressure? EGR passages clear? maybe map sensor?

Message: Dude, run the seafoam through the fuel (pour into tank, follow with some gas to wash it down....mix with 15-20 gals.) so it cleans the inside of the injectors. You pour (dribble) the water in the throttle body.

Message: Yes I do have a new bosch o2 sensor in it. I will try sea foam mixed in the tank also. The container said pouring directly through tb will clean injectors also. When I said I put into tb I did dribble in. I guess I will see if someone has a more technical scanner for the sensors that will tell exactly what there all doing. I went thru everything and find nothing. Truck runs fantastic, idle, power pull. I just get that dam ping. I can say the ping is only on real hot days when motor is running hotter. If the day is a cool day no ping. Remember in a upper post I dropped thermostat temp to 180 already. I do not want to go any further. I dont know how that may effect the motor for sure. Thanks everyone so far for all there thoughts!

ok daddio should remember this
some time back
on the V6 board
Larry made a good post on Bosch O2 VS. NGK - NTK O2
while watching them on a scanner
he found the Bosch were rather Lazy
and started getting worst in as little as
5,000 - 20,0000 miles
the NGK - NTK O2's read and performed quicker
he discovered this while working on a truck they couldnt get to stop pinging

Message: Curly, I am not sure on this, but isnt the original oem one a bosch also? Do you think I should replace with a ngk o2 sensor? When I replaced the original sensor with a new bosch it still pinged, but that was before I ripped top of motor down and cleaned real good and all new gaskets thru out. Do you think it would be a waste of time to put old one back in, since intake was fixed after? I have to look and see if I still have it though. I am about 99% sure it was the original, but it could not be. What's your thoughts Curly from here? Get the new ngk sensor?

Message: not sure but there should be a way to check the O2 sensor with a digital voltmeter. i have checked others like this before but not on my Dak.
yes, there have been problems sited with the Bosch o2 sensors. NGK/NTK are better and can be ordered direct from NGK for cheaper than just aqbout anywhere else.

Message: Curly/daddio, I just did some price checking. The bosch are more expensive in the local auto stores. I guess that dont mean it is better. I may just try the ngk one. Is there anyway to tell with a volt meter if the oxygen sensor is being lazy? Or need more tech. equip.?

Message: ok ejo
let me get the info from Larry
on how to test your O2
and yes the NGK - NTK O2 are cheaper then Bosch
if ordered right from their website
not sure what yours came with stock
but some came with the NGK O2's
don't waste the dollars yet
let me get the info on how to test your current one
the worst thing you want to do is just start throwing money at the truck
you might never find the problem and only drain the wallet

Message: Thanks on that! But will I be able to check if it is a lazy sensor? Also in case you didnt see a upper post of mine, the truck pings on hot days of about 80deg. and above. If the temp. is lower mostly never pings. Just wanted to put that out there in case you think o2 sensor wont do that. And I stepped down thermostat to 180deg. Dont want to go any colder. And it really didnt seem to change pinging that much. Another small bit of info. If I run better octane fuel it stops for awhile. Like a week or so, then ping comes back. Then go back to regular unleaded for awhile, then back to the high octane (93) stops ping for week or so again. Very strange. Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!

Message: here you go
the way to test your bosch O2 and see if its lazy
and this is from Larry of J&J auto on the V6 board
.........................
Pin 41 on computer
get a long sowing needle and back probe with
digital volt meter
cold
4.8, 4.9
1 min it should begin to drop
3.8
2.8
1.8
now it will flip flop
1.01 .99 to .1 .2 and continue to move all the
time
A lot of the bosch will stay at high volts and
just begin to flip flop never stepping down
makes for crap idle when started cold
I would also check the fuel pressure
a very bad engine temp or IAT sensor will also
lean it out for some reason your not getting the
fuel you need
And yes please get rid of that bosch
ngk.com get the right sensor o2 is the most
important of them all
