Subject: Engine Mount Failure IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone ever had an engine mount failure? I have a 96 2wd 5sp. In first and sometimes second it feels like my transmisson is rotating about 3 inches to the right at the shifter. I took the transmission mount out and it is intact. I am sure an engine mount failure would feel about the same. Just wanted to check before I go the next step.
Thanks.

Message: Easy way to check that out is pop the hood with E brake on and in Neutal. Start it up and walk around to the front grab the throttle linkage and rev it up well watching the engine. If it looks like its rocking back and forth alot check out the motor mounts. They do die out after awhile and fall apart. Easy job in any case

Message: Good advice - my experience with bad motor mounts was almost 30 years ago, in an old beater of a '69 Barracuda convertible. Got about a year of fun memories out of that battered but reliable ride; for about half that time both motor mounts were broken. The motor would be in a different position every time I parked it. still worked fine like that, with almost every body panel banged up. You had to beat on the drivers door to get it to open, and hang on to passengers sometimes on left turns because it was only a little friction keeping that door closed - the latch had nothing to do with it. Finally went to the next $100 beater when the torsion bar rear mounts tore out. What a shame, the ragtop still worked perfect. Back then, many of my friends drove similar beaters, and we wouldn't call anything a sh*tbox as long as the radio still worked. Sorry for the long rant, but seeing the name "Lemmon" - just hoping to put your problem in persective, and brighten someone's day.

Message: Turns out the left motor mount is bad. I have a replacement on order from the dealer 39.00. The truck has never been a Lemon- I bought it new on Thanksgiving day 1995. Lemmon is a reference to the old Lemmon(Rorer)714's. The younger guys have no idea what they missed.

Message: I was wondering if the 714 might be a refence to qualudes / "disco bisquits". We never called them Lemmons - and the younger guys now abusing prescription pills have access to stuff that's even stronger...
Off to the races this weekend, then a week at Lake Winnipessaukie. Not planing on injesting anything I don't have a prescription for, good luck with your motor mount !

Message: The 714 is a reference to quaaludes. Lemmon Pharmacal manufactured them up through the 80's. They were made in the suburbs North of Philly. Not part of my history, part of my current employer. We are currently making the "Stuff that's even stronger."

Message: Located in central New Hampshire; about a half hour north of the rcae track (NHIS). Had a great week with the edge of the lake right at our campsite (and a few of those shots and beers).

Message: Is it normal for the oil pressure gauge to jump around? When I'm idling for awhile it drops to around 40 but shoots up t0 80 or so while I'm driving. I have also watched it move around while I'm driving...problem brewing?

Message: Now everyone has figured out what the Rorer 714 t-shirt worn by Tommy Chong playing the drums at the end of Cheech and Chong's Up-in-Smoke means.
