Anybody have any good tips for helping the air conditioning get a bit cooler. Anytime it gets over 80 around here my air just wont cut it. I dont think anything is wrong with it but it wasnt all that great even when the truck was brand new.

Just because it was like that since new, I wouldn't automatically decide there wasn't anything wrong with it. The AC in my '00 4.7 still works great when it's 100 out. I remember TexasTodd posting something a while ago about something that may help a bit - I can't remember if it might have been a shutoff valve for the heater hose maybe ? But I'd suspect your system might not be up to snuff, since mine works so well. Not everything comes out of the factory perfect.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Your probably right, Ill check the pressure this weekend. Now that you say that I do remember hearing something about that shutoff valve but it didnt really make sense to me unless the vent system is built differently than im thinking.

the valve stops the hot water from traveling through the heater.
you may have a flap partly open causing mixed hot/cold air through your vents. Any chance your not running your air on recirculate. very import for a/c to work right

Thanks for the input guys. I have the day off work tomorrow so im gonna check the pressure, reroute that coolant line, and then check the outlet temp.
When I check the temp should I let the cab get cool first so the recirculated air is cooler. Anybody know what size the coolant line is so I can get the right valve.

maybe your condensor is really dirty and banged up, if it is just blow it out with compressed air, and make sure your compressor clutch is cycling on and off at the right times, if not, your most likely low on regrigerant. very well could be the heater core valve leaking though. good luck

you should be able to get a 30 deg diff between the air coming from the vent and the outside air temp. better way to check is with gages.

i still can't get used to this R134a. it just doesn't seem to get as cold as the old R-12.

yeah, it will never be as efficient as an r-12 system, but since its really expensive, and non environment friendly, we gotta use r-134a...

When you say a 30 degree temp split are you talking idle or going down the road ? If it's going down the road somethings not right.

I re-posted a thread about this weeks or months ago. I've been doing this for years.

You simply put a 1/2, ball cock valve, (bought mine at Home Depot), in the inlet water line heater hose. Just a 90 turn of the vlave turns the water flow on or off. Just cut out about an inch of line, somewhere in the middle, easy to get to, and install the valve. Another friend put a valve in both his lines, I just use the inlet line, works great.

I now put my temp gauge for the a-c/heater all the way red, and it gets COLD, no more warm/hot air.

Even if all your vents are working properly, this will dramatically cool your a/c temp. Another poster did an objuective test before and after and got a consistent 9 degree difference. Try setting your house thermostat 9 degrees different and see what it fells like.

This being said, you still may have other problems, I'd try and fix them also. But I'd STILL fo the cut off valve trick.

Good luck, and post your results.

I will post my results this weekend. I got side tracked last weekend. Problems with one of my jet skis took up most of my weekend.
