Message: Well i havent posted in along time and its "toolfan" by the way.
I had list of things i needed to do and wanted to do to my dakota.
-1st was rebuild my 44re Automatic transmission
which i did for my senior project. the transmission would slip in second under full throttle. when tearing it apart it was in great shape and the Second Gear kick down band that would slip still looked new after over a 1000 times of slipping. i replace all the clutches and seals. I spent $700 on this.
-2nd was replacing the Plenum gasket on my 5.2L. the gasket had been blown for awhile, causing oil burning and poor performance. while having the manifold off i ported out the intake runners and the throttle body. spent $23
3rd was the drive shaft U-joints $32
4th was make a new exhaust from the manifolds back. I Used 2-1/4 inch pipe for the down pipe. and where the two down pipes meet it goes into 3inch pipe all the way out. Sounds deeper and has greatly increased my gas milage. I didn't lose any low end tq going to this size pipe. i did have to buy a welder for this one so i bought a Lincoln 140amp 110volt welder that will weld 1/4 inch thick mild steel. Highly recommend this welder to any who are looking for a welder.
-spent $550 on the welder and $15 on exhaust piping.
The truck revs much smoother now and will make power all the way to the rev limiter.
I am still planing to Go to UTI and was lucky enough to get $750 scolarship money for placing 5th on a 200 Question ASE certified Test that about 200 kids took and competed for 1st place.
My truck now has 164,000 miles and i plan to drive it until i have the money and time to turn it into off-road race truck which will probably be 3 years from now.

Message: So did the tranny slipping go away? YOu didn't seem to note any causes you found as the band looks good suprisingly. Maybe the lip seal for the 2nd gear servo was leaking/sticking.
Sounds good. You changed your name. I assume you got tired of all the flaming around here?

Im going to the one in Rancho Cucamonga. thats great that she was 1st in her class. I feel i will do well we had an awesome automotive class at my highschool.

I was reading in one of my transmission books and it stated that if the shift linkage was out of adjustment it can cause the problems i was having. and sure enough the problems were coming from the shift linkage being out of adjustment and when i put in the rebuilt trans and test it, it had the same problem i had before. Now that i have adjusted the shift linkage so there is no slop the problems have gone away. Boomer i read that after i had already pulled the transmission out.
i still have some problems but im starting to feel its the shift kit from trans go thats in the trans because before i had that i never had a problem with the trans...?
the best news is im getting 15.5mpg city after changing the exhaust and working with the intake.
