so heres my problem, just got my dakota back from the shop - its a 97 5.2 4wd manual - i just had a new transmission put in it...i was out of town and my dad was checking it out - taking it for a drive etc. everything was working fine

when he parked it he pushed the lock button on the inside of the door and got out - he came back later to move the truck and opened the door - the door opened and the alarm went off - (i found out later that the door lock was broken and can only be manual locked or unlocked) he didnt have my key fob to turn it off so he unplugged the ground on the battery - when he put it back on the alarm started again - he then removed the battery cables again and left it over night unplugged

the next day when he put it all back together it wouldnt start - the alarm wasnt going off - we still have power to everything but the engine wont start at all............whats going on?

It's the alarm system thinking someone is trying to steel your truck. You should have a reset button hid somewhere. Mine is up under the dash

theres a kill on those alarms that kill power to the ignition when the alarms going off. look under your dash to see a black box with a bunch of wires and try to unplug it. the connector might have anywhere from 8-12 small wires that it connects. Disconnect it and try to start it, maybe it will help, good luck
