Message: The headlamps on my 98 have started to look yellow. I have tried to polish them but they need to be replaced. My question is this. Do I replace them with O.E. style, or aftermarket xenon, etc. Anyone have any good/bad advice ? Thanks for any help.

Message: What did you try to clean them with. Mothers FINE aluminum polish works well. So does fine rubbing compound. The kind used on auto paint. Are you sure the yellow is on the outside. usually is but can be on inside. Then you replace.

Message: On my 2001, the lights started to get yellow too. I buffed them by hand with Plast-X. It helped some but not enough to suit me. Then the other day it rained pretty hard and one light had water collecting inside it. I looked but never was able to find any in the aftermarket that I liked, so I just bought new OE lights at the dealer. I did find a junkyard in Tampa that said they had aftermarket lights that were the same as OE for $100 each, but I just went with the Mopar lights. My headlights are a lot brighter now.
Advance Auto Parts and Walmart too I think sells a kit with chemicals and different grades of sandpaper and polishing cloths that is said to be the best way to restore the lights by hand, but I have no idea how well it works. It's about $15 or $20. A guy who has a business here restoring headlights told me that they won't turn yellow if you wax the lights with Meguiar's #3 Carnauba wax. I have been waxing mine every time I wash my truck, and it seems to help, but it's too early to tell with the new lights.

Message: i've herad to use toothpaste and a toothbrush. but really, some polishing compound should do the trick. Mothers does make some great waxs. used that stuf on my bike when i had it. it could make the polished alum shine like chrome.

I used that on mine as well, it worked fairly well. There is still some yellow buildup on the lights but not nearly as bad as they were. I guess it must be on the inside, I hadn't thought about that.
If anyone else wants to replace theres, be sure to check...

They are aftermarket I guess, but a lot cheaper than the dealer part I would hope.

Message: Mother's PowerBall in a drill and some Mother's Plastic Polish. Effortless with great results. I have a '95 and have been nursing mine (originals) for a while. Good luck!

Message: Thanks for the replies. I was convinced the problem was on the inside, but will try it again using these suggestions. Will let you know.
