Subject: New EPA test procedures for MPG IP: Logged
Message: Have any of you seen/heard that there are new EPA guidelines for figuring fuel economy? You can check out http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ and they have revised numbers for older vehicles.
They are now going to take into account running with a/c on, hard accelerations and colder air temperatures.
2002 dakota auto 4.7L 4x4
old method .. 13/18 and 15 combined
new method .. 12/16 and 14 combined.
my starting fuel economy of 15.5 doesn't seem all that bad now. LOL

Message: thats kind of sad
there are VERY few cars that will get 30mpg or more
in the early 90s there were like 5 that would get 40+

Message: it's good for the consumer, it's more "realistic" test. bad for the numbers.

Message: My 92 Daytona still gets 35 mpg highway, and has gotten as high as 39 mpg on long trips where the speed limit is still 55. That's at 276K miles on the original engine.
