Subject: tow info... IP: Logged
Message: So I've finally determined that I do have room with my rear exit dual exhaust. I'm looking at getting a class IV hitch. What is the most weight anyone has hauled comfortably with a 2001 4.7L CC 4x4? I will be using mine for work, and the owners manual indicates about 5K for the higher gears or 6K for the lower gears. Where do I locate my rear gear info? Is there a code on the axle tubes or elsewhere?

Message: I seem to remember seeing the gear info underneath the truck near the differentials??? It might also list it on the sticker near on driver door.
I have a 4.7 QC 4x4 with the 3.92 gears. I would guess my max towing was a 5000 lb "lite" camper with some moderate loads in the cab. This was really about all I'd be comofortable with towing. The length of the camper (28') was as much of a concern as the weight. Equilizer hitch is necessary for this weight IMO. I'm very cautious on windy days and tow it only on occasion.

Message: Probably also on the left rear axel tube, visible through the wheel well. My truck was very similar to yours (just 1 year older and RC) and I pulled about 5500# camper with the 3.55 gears in large hills with no problems. With 4.10 now, I have no problems with a 7500# flatbed trailer I own. Keeping decent tongue weight will help with handling.
