of how my '00 QC would perform if i transplanted a 3.8l turbo buick engine with 275hp/360tq into it. 15lbs.of boost on pump gas. 20 yr old technology that can still kick serious butt against todays tech.

oh well, it's time to get back to work now. maybe one day.

Those are quick in lighter cars; do you know what the torque curve looks like for use in a heavy QC though ? Where most of the torque is available will matter a lot more than the peak number for that aplication.

yeah, they move the 3400# regal pretty good. around 13.xx stock, 12's or better with less than 1 grand. anyway i think the peak torque is around 3200rpm. it's just daydreaming anyway as the title states. i have a much lighter car (2800lbs) for that powerplant when the time comes.

the main point i wanted to make is, that in 20 yrs technology has done nadda for performance or fuel mileage.

There's been some gains lately with vatiable valve timing; and with closer tolerances/lighter oils - but I basically agree. Seems they should be able to do better. I can see a fair bit of progress looking back another 10-15 years though - when pollution control was tacked on; rather than designed in. My second car was a 350 Cutlass - about a thousand pounds lighter than my truck, and 55 less peak hp despite a full liter more displacement. Yet it got about 3 mpg (20%) less. I think of that when I hear people complain how "bad" their truck's milage is. So we've made some gains, but more would be nice.

One of my sister's first car was a 1985 dodge aries k with the 4 banger. That car would definately not win any races but it did get about 45 mpg.

And honda is touting their hybrids. Dodge was getting that kind of gas milage on regular gas over 20 years ago. Kind of sad and pathetic.

todd, i guess 227/300i about 275/360. but i am talking about only 3.8l v6. and a grand more in parts would be way more than that. enough to put a 3400# car into the high 11's.

i still don't think tecnology has done what it could do to maximize efficiency of the good ole internal combustion engine.

maybe so daddio,

technology? nearly all vehicles are a comprimise, of maximaizing profit.

ALL vehicles should have forced inductiuon, etc.

The diesel makers figured that our along time ago.

Talk about seeing aftermarket gains-the diesel is awesome. Todays diesel pickups don't even pour visible smoke out of the exhaust like the old ones did.

Will this V6 handle 15lbs of boost very long?

the 3.8L gm engine was one of the best v6's ever. rock solid as the 4.3 and they put a turbo on it for the GN. badazz v6 if you ask me.
