Subject: NAPA bearing number, please!

Hi all - I did a search and I got the Timken number for the wheelbearings for my truck - 99 Dakota 4x4 non-ABS. I dropped everything off at NAPA, and they left me a message that the bearing number I gave them won't fit.

Would someone please verify the bearing number for me? I'm at work and sneaking a quick email to ask :-(

Thanks in advance!!!!

ugh! I searched this site again and I came up with SET49 from Timken, and a cross to NAPA BRGFW115. The Napa guy says that doesn't fit. Do I have the wrong number?

TIA!

Good luck ever finding bearings for your Dodge.

Chrysler Corp are fackin b@stards for locking down the bearing numbers form the aftermarket!

It is really hard to find bearings, ESPECIALLY pinion bearings in the rear diff! AURGHH!!!

So, maybe I need to start a new thread... not sure. The question is - what the hell could I have done wrong?

I removed the old hub. I bought a new one from Dodge. I greased the splines and then I bolted it to the truck with the 3 bolts in a triangle pattern. Then I put the center locknut on with some blue lock-tite and I torqued it to about 180ft lbs. My Torque wrench goes to 160ft lbs and I hyper extended it a bit. The truck is better, but at 75 it is humming away.

This is exactly what happened to me last year on the left side. I installed the new hub - that time aftermarket - and the problem was better but not gone. I took it to a shop and they told me the bearing was sloppy. A new Dodge hub was installed and all was fine.

What the hell could I possibly be doing wrong???? Or is it common to get a bad hub bearing from Dodge or aftermarket?

I am really puzzled and frustrated on this one :-(

oh no - my service manual shows the 180ft lbs for 2wd models and only 123ftlbs for the 4wd model. Could I have damaged it by over-tightening?
