Subject: Cerberus to Buy 80 Percent of Chrysler

Steal of the decade in my option. Great company, great price. Cerberus owns a large stake in GMAC as well.

I personally haven't looked at the finances of the Chrysler group, but have read many accounts on various websites about it. The general idea is that the chrysler group has been footing the bill for many DC projects such as engine and transmission development.

If they can get the fuel economy up, I think chrysler has a good chance to stay in the top 3 auto makers in the world and give toyota and GM a run for number 1.

They have the power, they have the reliability, the just need the fuel economy to entice users. a larger warranty (3/36 sucks) would definately help. My last vehicle purchases was not a dodge because of price and warranty.

If they would only put Amsoil in as factory fill for all fluids, Chrysler would be NUMBER F%*@IN' ONE!!!
No one would consider anything else. It would be over! All hail Chrysler! R.I.P. GM-Ford-Toyota, etc... (sarcasm off)

Thank you QQQ for the Amsoil endorsement!

Though you thought you were posting a "flame" ... the key to success in any business is to become a "household name" and get your product mentioned as many times as possible.

Thank you for assisting us by mentioning our name in your post.

Keep up the good work!

In Greek mythology, Cerberus (Greek Kerberos, "demon of the pit") was the hound of Hades, a monstrous three-headed dog (sometimes said to have 50 or 100 heads) with a snake for a tail; he was also seen with a dragon's tail and serpentine mane.

Cerberus guarded the gate to Hades and ensured that spirits of the dead could enter, but none could exit.

Well on a plus note, I can look at Chry. again as I refused to buy one as long as DC owned it!
Though I will be honest, our Gran Prix is a very good car.

I hear rumor they are going to drop the Chrysler name.

Any idea what name they are going to use?

First thing I believe should be changed....New designs for every Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge. They used to be my favorite looking vehicles, and now I look and wonder how they got so ugly. At least the future looks better now that theres someone on top of Chrysler to kick them if theyre slacking!

The new 08 dakota is supposed to have "substantially improved" fuel economy. I have yet to see numbers. Has anyone seen any numbers?

No, but I heard an ad on a Boston radio station claiming that Dodge has the most fuel efficient vehicles ever. What a big, fat lie. In the early 90s Chrysler had the Acclaim, Spirit, Shadow, Sundance, Daytona, Laser, all capable of over 30 mpg. Now they have just the Caliber and a lot of fat, fugly gangstamobiles. Toyota has been eating their lunch because Chrysler has abandoned this market segment.

Cerberus owns GMAC financing. The "pedigree" is even more diluted.

I think "q" read the headline wrong. There will be no name change for Chrysler. It is Daimler who will eventually drop the Chrysler portion of its name.

I just hope they can turn the company around... and I agree about redesigning ALL the Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge vehicles.

Maybe now is the time to start writing letters/emails hinting at a diesel in the Dakotas!

...or with today's gas prices, offer a damn hybrid version. lol

Cummins diesel Dakota would get a repeat buy out of me! And a major redo of the exterior. And honestly it doesn't have to get any bigger, maybe even a tad bit smaller in the next redesign. If I wanted a full size, I'd buy a full size.

The buyout seems like a steal with some great products out there. They have consistent winners such as the Cherokee, minivans, and 300 series. But we'll see if they can do some catch up with some of the more fuel efficient brands out there.

And I agree with the posters above about their exterior design. In the late 90's they were some of the best looking autos out there. Now there are only a few that I still like a lot such as Ram, 300 C, and Viper.

q, the new name will be Chrysler/Holding. When I read the report I thought it was Holden at first. (another german engineering company which makes the newer GTO and G8 for GM)

The money they are dumping into Chrysler every year sense they bought it must be totally out of sight. selling out for 1/10 what they paid for it is unreal. that's over 60 billion lost not counting the yearly loses. Absolutely out of sight.
