AMSOIL Celebrates 25 Years of By-Pass Filtration

__ Limited Commemorative Edition Ea Oil Filters __

A Chrome Plated Amsoil Ea By-Pass Filter that will look great on your truck!

In 1982 AMSOIL INC. of Superior, WI, introduced its patented by-pass filtration system for maximum oil filtration efficiency and engine protection. Today AMSOIL is celebrating this milestone with a limited edition chrome plated by-pass filter featuring advanced full synthetic nanofiber technology.

The recently introduced AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Oil Filter offers improved lubricant flow, improved cold-start performance, reduced operating costs and extended service intervals. AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Oil Filters are the highest efficiency filters on the market for automotive, light truck and heavy duty diesel applications.

Even the finest full flow oil filter has its limitations. Due to engine design, full flow filters cannot have a dense enough medium to trap the finest impurities. By-pass filters step in where full flow filters leave off.

AMSOIL was the first in the industry to offer this type of full synthetic media in a cartridge style filter. The Ea synthetic media is made of fibers with a controlled size and shape that are significantly smaller in diameter than conventional filters. Extensive testing shows that AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters provide an absolute 98.7% efficiency rating at 2 microns, plus contaminant and soot removal capabilities of less than one micron.

Benefits include:

• Reduced engine wear
• Higher capacity than competing filter lines
• Excellent flow characteristics
• Unsurpassed service life

In addition to being fully functional the new Amsoil Limited Commemorative Edition Ea By-Pass Filter will look great on your truck.

Amsoil By-Pass Oil Filter Information

Engine wear is caused by dirt particles larger than 5 microns. The AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filter removes particles as small as 1/10 of a micron, virtually eliminating engine wear.

AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filters filter all the oil in a six-quart system in about five minutes at an average engine speed equivalent to 45 mph.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filter provides the best possible filtration protection against wear, oil degradation, rust and corrosion. Working in conjunction with the engine’s full-flow oil filter, the AMSOIL By-Pass Filter operates by filtering oil on a "partial-flow" basis. It draws approximately ten percent of the oil at any one time and traps the extremely small, wear-causing contaminants and water that full-flow filters can’t remove. The AMSOIL By-Pass Filter typically filters all the oil in the system several times an hour, so the engine continuously receives analytically clean oil.

Reasons to choose Amsoil By-Pass Installations:

• Easy to set-up;
• Amsoil uses spin on filters that are similar
to regular spin-on Full Flow Filters - but
the By-Pass Filters have more high desinsty media;
• Ease of changing filters.

You have a choice between Single and Dual By-Pass Systems.

Four Reasons That I Prefer the Single By-Pass vs. Dual By-Pass.

1) I prefer the Single By-Pass because the Dual By-Pass has be shown to reduce oil pressure in some applications. The Dual By-Pass Units restrict main oil flow to get differential pressure for the bypass filter.

However, I DO HAVE many customers who run the Dual By-Pass on diesel engine pickup trucks with absolutely NO PROBLEMS. As long as the hoses are kept fairly short and you minimize viscous flow losses, there is very little drop in oil pressure vs. the stock filter setup.

Note: As long as you have an oil pressure guage and not an idiot light --- I have absolutely no problem recommending the Dual By-Pass.

2) The Single By-Pass takes up less space, and it is easier to find a spot to mount it since it is much smaller.

3) Single By-Pass is less expensive to "set up", and is less expensive to maintain.

4) Easier to remove and place on your next vehicle (size issue)

IMHO - a standard Single By-Pass with "return oil to the top side of the engine", is the smartest set-up and takes up less space. Plus, easy to remove and place it on your next vehicle.

Thank you for that post. You add so much value.

I would like to follow up with the following information.

AMSOIL Dual Remote By-Pass Oil Filter.

In the prior post, I explained why I prefer the "Single" By-Pass Oil Filter System. So it is only fair that I post THE REASONS someone may want to consider the "Dual" Remote By-Pass Oil Filter System.

*** Reasons for using the AMSOIL Dual Remote By-Pass Oil Filter.

1) It allows the use of a LARGER full flow filter. -- which could be up to 3 times larger than the OEM. In total, this could equate to 3 quarts more oil capacity which offers greater protection for the engine.

2) The By-Pass filter is a spin on and is very easy to change without creating a mess.

3) The "setup" is a very clean installation.

4) The hoses for the "setup" are "industrial hydraulic hoses" with reusable connectors -- they don't leak -- and can be easily relocated to another vehicle if you sell your Dakota.

5) By-Pass Filtration Continuously Cleans The Oil.

6) Save $$$ with EXTENDED DRAINS - the "system" will pay for itself and save $$$ in the long run.

7) A regular Full Flow Filter will filter at 10 micron, and then NOT let the bypass valve open at some point -- releasing some of the dirt back into the oil galley. By-Pass filters -- once the dirt is in the filter it stays in the filter until you change it.

A FAQ: Why isn't By-Pass Filtration available as OEM (standard on a vehicle)?

I believe that the reason why By-Pass filtration is not a standard for vehicle manufacturers is because of the potential for profit loss. If vehicles last too long, auto manufacturers can't expect you to return and buy a new vehicle.

For the consumer, By-Pass filtration is one way to keep repair costs down AND allow the engine to last much longer (and perform close to "brand new"). IMHO -- Vehicle manufacturers are merely concerned with the vehicle lasting until it is out of warranty.

Think of this also. If every vehicle came factory installed By-Pass oil filtration, what would the oil companies do? Motor oil demand would drop by 75% ... and they certainly would see a drop in profits. That is why you see the "quickie lubes" (some owned by major oil companies) pushing the current 3,000 mile recommended oil change interval -- it puts lots of $$$ in their pockets.

For someone who hopes to never rebuild an engine, the By-Pass filtration is an excellent choice.
