Subject: Shocks rattling? IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I recently installed some new procomp es9000 shocks on my 2000 koda and used the little inserts provided for the rear shocks. I used the ones that were closest to the diameter of the shock mounting bolt...but I guess it was still a little too large??...
Because for some reason my truck is rattling like crazy over any tiny little bump I go over. I torqued the bolts to spec initially, when I heard all the rattling I tightened even tighter and it didn't help...anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on here?? It'd much appreciated.

Message: Tightening the bolts won't do anything. They are in shear, not tension. They only have to be tight enough so the nut doesn't fall off.
The problem is exactly what you think it is. The bushing is too large for the bolt.

Message: Okay, so how do I go about fixing it? I was thinking about maybe using some silicone or some gasket sealant or something and putting it all inside the bushing...maybe? Or perhaps put the bushings in a vice or something??
Anyone have any input/suggestions?

Message: Contact the shock makers and see if they have a replacement bushing of the correct size.
Also, check to make sure you have the correct bolt in there. Maybe a factory/dealer error, or previous owner/reapir shop error.
The bolt you want has a shank that extends almost all the way through the bushing. If there are a lot of threads inside the bushing, it won't fit correctly and the threads will chew up the bushing. The bolt should also fit pretty tightly through bracket holes. Shouldn't be a lot of slop there.
You could also buy a bolt that fits the bushing, then drill out the mounting bracket. But that could cause problems later on when you change the shocks again for some reason.

Message: Good suggestions guys. I think I'll definitely be sending them an email. Curious as to why there aren't any threads/complaints from others who have installed these shocks...
