 Subject: stock dakota vs. stock mustang

i got a 04 4.7 2wd dakota all stock engine wise and there is a 5spd v6 mustang that wants to race me. only thing i am concerned with is he ways alot less and will hook up better probably. who you think will win?
oh and another thing i may no longer be having my truck, i love it, i've never had a problem with it, but i might be getting a new job and its a 40 minute drive every day so that tank would be eating tons of gas...lookin at getting an eclipse but it would have to be a 2nd gen and all wheel drive turbo'd to make up for my v8 truck...i would keep it and get another car but cant afford that right now

Similar HP, you have more torque but he has much less weight. He'll crush you on a road course; might be a close drag race.

what year mustang? Is your dak a RC?
Almost any mustang will kill you in the twistys but alot of the older V-6s couldnt even get into the 15s on the strip.
From 94-98 they only had 150hp.
99-01 180hp
02 and up 190-200 hp
I might be a bit off but that should be pretty close.

i'm not sure what year it is i know its 99-04...I figured its got 190hp 220 tq while my truck gots 235hp and 295tq. yeah i got a regular cab, i know its quick i beat a ram hemi, so i got faith that i can beat a mustang, we'll be racing a quarter mile, if i can get a full time job pretty quick i'm thinkin i am gonna slap in a powertrax lsd in with some 4.10 gears, then i would be set for sure.

The newer ones have more HP. My friend's v6 Mustang is rated 230 HP, same as my wifes turbo Subaru, and similar weight. I know the Subaru will come close to keeping up with my modded Dak; so if that's a newer Mustang expect some competition. Haven't raced the mustang, but I've ridden in it - pretty snappy for a 6 with the manual.

I just did some research and I couldnt find any v-6 mustangs that were 230. 210 was the highest I could find and that was in the 2005-2007 range.
I bet you will take him by about .5 in the quarter if you can drive.

The 2005 -07 ford mustands with the 4L v6 puts out 210 and is the same motor thats in their ranger 4x4's quick reving little motor and alot of torque down low Good little motor if it didnt suck more gas then our 3.9L Ford has always built power by injecting in more fuel well dodge and chevy seem to refine their parts in the their motors to get more power that way

The weight difference won't be that much. Probably only 150-200 lbs. Those mustangs weighed about 3300 lbs. Plus like 4.7onN20 said V6 mustangs 5sp or not are pretty slow. New ones are better but the new ones are even heavier still.

I did some testing tonight. i was running around 6.7-7.5 seconds each time 0-60. i'm pretty confident the only thing i am worried about is hooking up my rubber is really old and worn i got like 4/32nds left on all the tires but maybe i'll invest in new ones first any suggestions on what brand tire? i got goodyear rs i believe on there now. 255/65/16, i'm thinkin i'm gonna go with a more low profile tire like a 255/50(or55)/16. thanks for the help guys

ford always lies about their power such as the 03 cobras actually make 420 at the flywheel the lightining makes 410 and the harleydavidson makes 360. so thats why he said 230 hp in a v6 its more like 240..

i just raced a 1990 mustang with an exhaust and intake. it was a 5 speed and the kid aint to fast at the shifting. he beat me off the line but every time he shifted id almost catch up and he would startpullin again. once we got past 70 he just pulled away from me.
99 RC 318. bored 30 over, cam, intake, full exhaust, PCM, and polished heads.
so theres your answer.
ill let you guys know how the race goes between me and a guy with a 6 cyl. 05 mustang.
