Subject: painting tono IP: Logged
Message: first of all this is a great site. I looked in the archives but there was nothing about this in there. I have a white club cab dakota with a silver tono (don't know how to spell that) cover. Well the cover has seen better days, I tried cleaning it up but there are some good sized scratches on it (I also used the Meuiar's paint cleaner, which worked great but it now shows off the scratches). Anyway how hard would it be to spray paint it white? I know i would have to apply a primer and several light coats (sanding between, anythoughts on the grit count, 300, 600), but how good do you think it would look(this isn't for show)? also any pointers that you can think of? Thanks in advance

Message: 1st were do you live if it's in Mn I can paint it for you and it will look sweet.
2nd if you want advise for the home job heres what you do sand it with 320 grit feather out the scratches spray 4-5 coats of primer let dry sand it then get a cheap spray gun some sealer and a quart of rustoelem gloss white and some minneral spirits seal it wait for the sealer to dry 15min depending where you live if it's warm that is good if its cold don't paint it then mix the paint to the instructions paint it let dry and your done.
3rd sand it and go to a local body shop and they might give you a deal if you just want them to paint it the one I worked at did that.
