They talk about the Tundra, having the 'available 5.7 V8,
did the Dodge Ram have the Hemi, or the 4.7?

They say it out accellerates with or without a load, and they they call it Horsepower! I'd thick it would be torque!

I'll bet they were matching it up to the 4.7 Ram.

And the red letters above your post seem to indicate this is a Dakota Board, not a Tundra or Ram board.

I'm curious. Why would you bet they are matching it up to a 4.7 Ram ? Any valid reason, or are you just bashing them out of brand loyalty ? I favor mopars too, but I'd like to see objective comparisons.

Well, this seems like a case where Toyota finally ponied up and put a real V8 in their truck......385hp and about 400lbft of torque is gonna run over just about any gas engine on the market. Time for everyone else to step up. I saw a guy driving one about a week ago....it would run.

Graphite, GB, others, I agree.

It seems that 'Chuck', is the one flaming me using the screenname texasturd.

Chuck, my point is, I bring up things that are associated with our daks, or the engines that push them.
What do you contribute?

Well, if this is about who has been here the longest, I've been here since buying my truck in '00. Todd, I know you haven't been here that long. I favor the mopar brand too, but prefer accurate comparisons. We can usually compete pretty well without stacking the deck.

Those '07 Tundras are beasts. Close to Lightning 1/4 mile speed times. The cool thing is that it is still fast, plus you can still haul your things. I would not mind having one.

What kind of times did the GMC post ? Does it truly beat it ? Torque curves can be much more important than peak HP numbers when evaluating truck performance.

Right Kowalski!

I'm so sick and tired of these advertisements stating their car or truck has more HP than the competition. In reality that measured HP rating is 'peak horsepower', which is usually so high up in the RPM band that it lasts for only a split second.

The general public has no clue what horsepower actually is. They think it's a good measurement for realized power, but it's not. It's nothing but a measurement of power of a period of time. And to you know what that power IS that's being measured?! TORQUE.

TORQUE = power. Not horsepower.

I'd rather see torque figures. Far more telling.

my 2 cents.

Dan

You've got that right - and as a curve on a graph, not just peak numbers either.

They seem to use a bunch of other comparisons as well. "Fastest from 0-60", "fastest from 0-60-0", "fastest hauling a load".

They are giving the people what they want; and functional truck, that's fast too. The Dakota is stagnant by comparison, and it uses more gas.
