Subject: 119,000mi, all original brakes... IP: Logged
Message: 01, 4.7, manual, QC, SLT, etc.
119,000miles, original brakes, rotors, pads, everything.
Did you ever see someone driving down the street, the light turns red, and they just keep driving fast, even though the light just changed, until the last possible second, and then brake hard to a stop?
Well, I don't drive this way, maybe that's one reason my brakes have lasted so long.
I Just had my yearly State inspection too, which also includes the inspector to drive your vehicle, and using the brakes, etc.
I even tow my catamran sailboat every week or two, etc. NO brake problems after all these miles. I do have the larger rear drums, and I do use my parking brake when parked. (this keeps the rear brakes in adjustment, taking work off the front brakes, helping everything. Auto tranny guys rarely use the parking brake, the rears are out of asjustment, takes years off the front brakes, etc.

Message: No one's brakes last that long unless they never stop for lights and drive uphill all the time. Or they use engine compression to slow down to a stop. Original set of brakes but 5 ringjobs.

Message: Interesting but ignorant statement. I do a lot of highway driving, and my car's brakes were only 1/2 worn at 125K miles. The rear shoes were the same thickness as original. And they were adjusted properly. At 238K miles I replaced the rears, they were less than half-worn. Did the fronts at 175K miles with new rotors. Yes, I use engine braking, and no, at 276K miles, it does not burn oil, and compression is nearly the same as new.

Message: If you have a good quality set of shoes and pads on and drive like a profesional driver you will get good mileage. But OEM brakes aren't exactly known for being that great.

Message: To TexasTurd,
I'm really not sure what has your pantys in a wad.
Why are you always blasting me?
And,
I am not this 'shatto' person. My name is Todd, Todd Bouton. I only use this screen name when posting on this website. I never lie either. For instance, years ago after I dynoed, I posted the graphs online, etc. Click on the envelope, and you'll see my email addy is ToddSails. Sails because I'm an avid, catamaran sailor. Check out the 'Great Texas Catamaran Race' and annual event, 300miles along the coast of texas, offshore. It's at 'www.PiSailing.com'
And yes, I have the origainal brakes, rotors, everything on my DAk. Actually I checked my odometer, I only had 117,542miles, not 119,000,
Sorry.

In the 4th largest city in the nation, you expect to see how many dakotas? Did you see my Quad cab? White over silver with a matching white cab high Leer top?

Message: BTW,
My brakes are all original, as stated.
I do have a commercial drivers license, required for some trucks, the fire engines I drive (volunteer), etc.
I thought about it, most of my driving is probably 75% highway. I'm lucky enough to work hours that I'm rarely in stop and go traffic. Just to keep my truck in one place on flat ground, doesn't require my brakes like an auto tranny. I do downshift most of the time, the rpms don't go over 2000 when I'm downshifting though. And, I coast a short time before a stop. I also don't wait until the last possible millisecond to let off the gas and jam on the brakes, etc.
Texasturd (Chuck), my point was, this is rare for brakes to last this long, and there are others that have acheived this as well. I'm a professional driver, I just DON'T drive for any of my profession.

I keep State Farm Ins., because they have the lowest rates, when you have a good driving record.
