Message: LUKE...... With all due respect, if you need to ask you need a book. It really is not difficult but you could do damage if not done correct. Motors, transmissions and transfer cases are heavy and require support when doing this job. Don't let me scare you. As I said. It is not a difficult job.

Message: you will need a lift or ramps, trans jack, tools, unhook linkage and lines, take off driveline, maybe remove trans cross member to get out ( not sure about that one), unbolt and slide out. not real hard if you know what you're doing but not easy if you don't.

Message: Remove successful. Now how much cheaper should it be to rebuild since i removed and put it back. Or should i just buy a used low mile one?

Message: My tranny in my Durango cost $1950 to rebuild but that included removal. That was without all the updates. They wanted $2600 to include that. This was Aamco. You may find someone to do it cheaper. By comparison, the stealership wanted $4600. The warranty co. thought that outrageous and I agreed. Do some shopping around for the best price, but remember, like brake jobs, sometimes you get what you pay for. Just make sure you get a warranty with it. but sometimes they may only warranty if they do the removal and replacement.

Message: Luke, try www.car-part.com. i got one from a salvage yard listed on there for a used tranny and they shipped it and gave him a 6 month unlimited mileage warranty for around 450 bucks. granted this was for a ferd exploder but deals can be had.

Message: Keep an eye on ebay as well...I could have gotten a BRAND NEW 42RE a while back for under $800 SHIPPED. Unfortunately I didn't have the means to swap trannys and really couldn't afford that PLUS the cost of taking it to a shop and having the old one removed and the new one installed. You can also find rebuilt ones on there for pretty cheap...and if you shop around, some offer some pretty good warranties.

Message: I take it you don't have much experience shipping stuff internationally? It usually costs me nearly double what it would across the US to have stuff shipped to me internationally (both overseas and from Canada)...not to mention it usually takes longer since it has to go through customs.
